[ grocery ] :: buford highway farmer's market

A while back, The Hubs and I went on a mini-adventure to Buford Highway Farmer's Market.While it isn't a farmer's market in the traditional sense (it's more like an international grocery store the size of Costco), it is still amazing. Whether you want rare Indian delicacies, some Asian fare, or fresh local produce or veggies from all over the world, BHFM is the place to go!

My "catch" from the market. Fresh tomatoes, peppers, dandelion greens, Indian eggplant, okra, onions, fresh citrus, and organic apples. Also pictured: basil and lemon balm from my garden, tart green apples stolen from my neighbor's apple tree.

I was like a kid in a candy store - The Hubs had to rein me in as I was running from shelf to shelf in the produce department. I should have snapped some pictures! The most incredible thing was the fresh fish...and when I say fresh, I mean still swimming. I think they had every type of seafood imaginable in their cold-boxes in the front, but behind that they had rows of saltwater and freshwater tanks with live lobsters, shellfish, and fish. There was a certain oceanic smell to the place that I didn't expect, but next time I will definitely have to bring home some fresh mussels or clams!

They also have cooking classes and demos that range from American to Indian and Asian cuisines, how to make sushi (yum!), and how to can foods. For $20-$40 per person, you can taste some new cuisine and take an educational class on how to make delicious, healthy food. Cross your fingers, and hope I can drag The Hubs to a sushi making class next month!
