[ recipe ] :: taco seasoning mix

Taco seasoning is not expensive in the store ($0.39-$0.89 per packet), but it is even cheaper to make it yourself from bulk spices. Plus, it's nice to know how to make it because inevitably I will forget to buy it for taco night!

Ingredients

2 tbsp chili powder
2 tbsp cumin
2 tbsp dried oregano
1 tbsp paprika
1 tbsp garlic powder
1 tsp ground black pepper
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp red pepper (or more if you like it spicy!)

Directions

Dump everything in a bowl, and give it a good stir. Keeps well for a month or more in an airtight container.

The beauty of this recipe is that you can tweak each ingredient as you desire, and use as much or as little as you like. I would probably use this recipe on 2 lbs of ground turkey or lean ground beef. Need chili seasoning? Use the taco seasoning, but add 2 tbsp more chili powder and 1 tbsp more cumin.
