[ daily deals ] :: medieval times tickets!
Have you ever been to Medieval Times in Lawrenceville, GA? It's awesome! We took a big group of people last year (all adults) and we had a blast. The Hubs loves it because he gets to eat half a chicken for dinner and have a chalice of beer. I can't tell you how many Medieval Times glasses we have accumulated...maybe 15?
The deal for Medieval Times is $25 for a child ticket (normally $42.11) and $35 for an adult ticket (normally $59.07).
If you haven't used Groupon before, sign up here to get your deal!

[ daily deals ] :: christmas for the dogs
Do you get presents for your pets? I do! I normally stock up on Christmas-themed items the day after Christmas at Petsmart when they are 50% off. However, The Hubs and I like to give the dogs something to "open" on Christmas morning.
This year, I went the online route and ordered presents from Dog.com. I've ordered from Horse.com before and was pleased with my purchase, so I thought I would give it a try. One thing I like about both of these sites is that there are discounts when you buy in bulk.
I found some great deals on some of the Demon Dogs' favorite chews - Nylabone Healthy Edibles, just $3.95 each when you buy 2. I didn't see their favorite flavor online (strawberry-banana), so chicken will have to do!
The Hubs and I are on a mission to find some mentally-stimulating toys for the pups. They have absolutely no interest in fluffy toys, and Norman tries to swallow rawhide chews like an anaconda. I thought we've give these a try - only $3.19 each when you buy 2!
This might be hit-or-miss, but we ordered some dog puzzles for them, too. Emma is super-genius-level-smart so she might figure these out immediately. Norman isn't as bright as her, but he will watch her and learn how to do it! We make fun of him for being a little daft, but in reality he is no dumbie. Emma will make any dog (or human) look stupid. These toys were just $10.71 each, and I think they'll be perfect for cold, rainy days when they dogs get bored. I chose this one because they have to turn the little knobs to open the flap. Hopefully it will stump them for a while.
I *almost* got them an agility set (Emma likes to jump) but it was too pricey. I wish my dogs were simple and liked cheap stuffed toys, but they have no interest in them! Not even squeaky toys. Or tennis balls. It has to taste or smell good for them to want to play...typical hound dogs. I wish there were more dog toys that were for scent-stimulated dogs, and not just for retrievers and sight-stimulated dogs.
Are you getting your pups any presents for the holidays?

[ daily deals ] :: $6 movie tickets
Are you as excited as I am about The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug? The Hubs and I are definitely going to go see it sometime this weekend.
Groupon is having another amazing deal on $6 tickets to Studio Movie Grill in Alpharetta, GA and Duluth, GA. The tickets are normally $10.50 - that's 43% savings! I think they have the ticket prices so cheap to lure you in to eat food. But, if you can be strong and order just a water (and sneak in some candy), you can have a fun night out 'on the cheap.'
I've posted this deal before, and I'll keep posting it because it's our favorite affordable way to go to the movies. I bought eight of these ticket deals. Yes, eight. Between now and February 2nd, we will go to four movies. I'll have to have The Hubs look over the upcoming movie releases again to see if we need to buy more tickets...
If you haven't used Groupon before, sign up here to get your deal!
Note: if you buy this deal and want to go see a movie on the weekend, buy your tickets ahead of time. They sell out of seats fast.

[ daily deals ] :: cheap gifts at old navy
Have you checked out the sale items at Old Navy this week? They have great gift items from $8 and up plus you can get 25% off your purchase (or 35% off a purchase of $100 or more) when you use the promotional code HOLIDAY.
Some of my favorites (hint, hint The Hubs) for women:
I might have bought this sweater for myself...it was just $9 with the 25% off discount! If it fits well I'll post a picture for y'all (and then order five more).
I am a big fan of Old Navy because they sell many of their items in "Tall" sizes. The Hubs and I are both very tall, so it's hard to find shirts that are long enough for us. Many of the pajama bottoms for women and men come in longer lengths. Hooray!
Some of my favorites for men:
Boxers are always a good gift for The Hubs...with a matching t-shirt! Shirt - was $9.94, now $5.00 (just $3.75 with discount). Boxers - was $8.50, now $7.00 (just $5.25 with discount).
The Hubs always gets me a few sets of pajamas for Christmas. It's a cute tradition that we've started, and I have to admit that he has pretty good taste!
I have no idea how much he spent at Old Navy, but they did email him a 20% coupon that is good on our next purchase. If anyone uses this deal and gets the coupon, let me know how much you bought so I can start to figure out how much The Hubs spent! That man is sneaky.

[ daily deals ] :: gap and old navy gift cards at publix
Woot! I got four $25 Old Navy gift cards for $80. Publix has a coupon in their grocery flier for $20 off when you buy $100 in Old Navy or Gap gift cards, valid until 12/31.
I also picked up another Visa gift card with a $10 off Publix coupon, good until December 11th. You can find that coupon in their weekly ad.The deal is for a $50 Visa gift card, but they were all out of them so I got a $25 card (the only one left) instead - isn't Publix great?
Using coupons, I managed to pay $119 out of pocket for $125 in gift cards and about $45 worth of groceries. I absolutely adore Publix. Can you tell I'm a loyal customer?

[ daily deals ] :: $50 Amex gift card for $40
Woot! This is my 200th post - can you believe it? Thank you to the few of you who read on a daily basis!
This is my last Daily Deal for a while - things are about to get super duper crazy in my house. Have you made a last minute run to the grocery store yet? I did today, and boy did it have me sweating in the checkout lane. Buying things full-price makes me nervous...I should probably see a therapist...but I didn't really have a choice in the matter.
At Publix today, I picked up some orange juice formimosas breakfast, bloody mary mix, limes, and flowers to spruce up the guest room. On the bright side, I had a few coupons and got some free hummus. Hummus makes everything OK.
I also took advantage of the new gift card deal: spend $25 on groceries and get $10 off a $50 American Express gift card. You can find the coupon in the Publix Health & Beauty flier - it's the purple booklet that you can find at the front of the store.
Note: The Amex card weren't scanning properly at my store - the manager let me use the coupon on a $50 Visa gift card instead. There is an activation fee of $4.95 on some gift cards.

[ daily deals ] :: $5 off meat at kroger
I don't usually post a daily deal on Saturday, but this one is really good. Coupons for fresh meat are rare (Leprechaun-rare, not Unicorn-rare) so I will definitely be using this deal! This Kroger eCoupon is good until 01/03/2014.
I will most definitely be getting $20 worth of Manager's Special Tyson boneless skinless chicken (and maybe some turkey sausage) with this coupon. That means that for $15, I can get 8-10 lbs of chicken. At the Kroger that I frequent, the meat and pre-packaged produce goes on sale for 50% off the day before it's sell-by date. I either cook a huge batch of it for lunches and dinners, or I repackage it and freeze it for later. Gross or awesome? You decide!

I wish they had this deal before we shelled out $21 to see Bad Grandpa last weekend - looking back on it, we spent far too much money on that movie. Yes, it was funny, but I would at least like to say that I spent over twenty bucks to see something with a little more substance. *sigh*

[ daily deals ] :: gourd lamp - the look for less
I get in trouble when I look through home magazines and catalogs. Especially the Shades of Light catalog, because I can't afford anything in it.
I have been on the hunt for a simple, white (or cream) gourd-shaped lamp for a long, long time. Enter: this lamp. $449 each from Shades of Light.
I immediately fell in love with it, but almost choked when I saw the price tag. Thank goodness for the internet, because I am not about to buy $900 worth of lamp. Oh hell no.
I found many contenders in the $150-$200 for a pair, but that was still too pricey. But then, one day, I was at Target and saw these babies: $29.99 each.
Woot! So, not only did I buy two of them, I got them on sale for 15% off. The two lamps cost just over $50 and I was able to use two shades I already had. Here they are on my buffet table in my dining room (the lighting is really bad, and it's currently under construction):
I can't figure out why the bulbs show through the shade when I take a picture. Huh. Weird.

[ daily deals ] :: tweed vest - the look for less
Why do I even bother looking at clothes at Nordstrom? Because I stupidly want to see this tweed vest by Eileen Fisher for $338:
I love a good vest. And tweed. Darn.
I immediately began to scour the internet for similar styles and found it at Old Navy, of all places, for just $42.50! So I ordered it. Luckily, I received my cash-back reward from one of my credit cards in the form of an Old Navy gift card so this bad boy cost me exactly zero dollars. Plus, I got Swagbucks from my online purchase - double win! But wait, it gets better. The Old Navy vest comes in tall sizes so it will be long enough for my 5'11" self.
- Maggie White
Update: the tweed vest in blue from Old Navy is on sale now for just $27!

[ home ] :: happy halloween!
Here's a tip (and a daily deal) for you guys - Halloween and fall-themed decorations are the cheapest around the end of October and Joann Fabric & Crafts now has all Halloween-themed items 70% off!
Last year was our first Halloween in our "real house" - we lived in a condo prior to moving and there were no kids in the area. When we didn't get any trick-or-treaters last year for Halloween, I was totally bummed out over it...and I ate all the leftover candy. However, in the past year we have had four families with children move into our neighborhood! I immediately began thinking about how I can lure children to my house so I can give them candy?
Decorations! I need decorations! So I scurried to Joann, bought some wall decals, and grabbed a "Halloween" banner for my front door. Ta-da!
Can you tell that I put minimal effort into my decorating this year? Hah!
The retail value for my decorations was $14.99 for the decals and $19.99 for the banner. I got them for 70% off, making them just $4.49 and $5.99 - what a score! I also got a candy bowl (originally $4.99) for $1.49, and bought my candy from Publix. They had a deal last week for Buy2 Get 1 Free on Hershey's and Reese's, plus I had a $1.50 off coupon. That made the price of my candy drop from $19.97 to $11.28. (Hint: if you want cheap candy, buy it at Kroger tomorrow when it's 50% off!)
Original Halloween Cost: $49.94
My Halloween Cost: $23.75
